I took SO many picture while I was Italy that I really don’t know where to begin! One of my first days there we went to the Duomo, which is this HUGE cathedral in Florence. The first time I saw it, I was walking and looking down at my hand-held flipVid camera when suddenly the bells of all of the cathedrals in Florence began ringing. I look up and there is this colossal structure in front of me. I actually yelled out “OH MY GOD!!” and the funny thing is– I got all of this on video. As soon as I can find that video, I’ll upload it. But until then, I will share with you some of the photos of the outside and a couple from the inside of the Duomo. (BTW, some of the dates on my pictures are wrong because I couldn’t figure out how to change the date stamp!)
Here’s a more comprehensive picture of the Duomo from its side-view — although this STILL doesn’t quite capture it’s complete enormity!
Share in my amazement with the second video above haha! Also, while I was in Italy the World Cup was going on — so we’d be walking down the street and mobs of people would be glued to television screens broadcasting the games. I was kind of blown away that they (the game spectators) were surrounded by so much beauty and yet– their eyes were transfixed by soccer!
Here’s one of me standing in front of it
This next one is of the inside of the dome. It amazes me that the painters were able to do all of that intricate artwork. When you are in there, you can see the whole where the planks were attached so that they’d be able to paint up there
Here’s another shot from inside. It was so beautiful in there!
This is one of the sides of the Duomo. Isn’t the architecture amazing???
